transition

hush
Hush 18" x 36" oil on canvas

I'm starting work on a series of drawings after my recent 'run' on oil landscapes. The large one, above, was the last painting I did and the drawing below is the first drawing. I like to think switching back and forth keeps me from getting stale. What's surprising is that while it takes less time to complete a painting as I become familiar with style/subject/medium, it seems to take longer and longer to draw. Hmmm.

Both are lovely, I really love that trippy sky in the drawing. I think this new direction decision is a good thing. We should plan some plein air trips around here.

Gorgeous -- both.

They are both lovely Andrea! Just love them!

For what it's worth, I think that drawing is much more meditative than painting. Less stuff to keep track of, I suppose.

Of course, I like both. A lot.

Stay inspired!

Thanks peeps -- and big sigh of relief. Some 'existential' struggles with the top one but the drawing happened much more organically ... though slowly! Just getting down to business has helped me through my crisis of self confidence.

These are both amazing. The sky in the drawing makes the whole thing feel as if it's moving. Or maybe I'm just having a flashback, lol.

Well, thank goodness, I don't need to choose, since I love them both! They both bring about distance and peace in two different ways! I find transition scary, but these images feel like a sense of certainty. I love them! :)

Wow. this is stunning. Using what seems just a few colors you have created such a dynamic painting. I love your work.

A very complex drawing Andrea, brilliant.
The style of the oil on canvas is fascinating.

I love the Sleeping Spirit. It spoke to me...I felt I was the tree and the "wind" all twisting and in motion was the turmoil in my life. I stand alone in the turmoil, the confusion and disarray, surviving.
Love it.

I love both these works, Andrea! Your distinctive style is evident in every one of your black paper drawings I've seen. I've attempted some paintings on black gessoed canvas and somehow they all end up with a generic look to them - my individual style is lost ... any tips?

Hi Barbara! I would just say "think negative space" and highlights. Your painting style is very distinctive so they're probably not as generic-looking as you think.
