changes

My infrequent blogging is not just about the changing face of online communication, but also about the changes in my meatworld life. Recently my art has taken a backseat to daily volunteer work here. Those of you who were around in the halcyon days of the blogosphere might remember Jesse, the pup we raised for PADS.

But more importantly, my brothers and I have been seeing my father through his final days. He had his first stroke a week after 9/11. He maintained his independence for as long as possible after that but three years ago finally moved into a nursing home. A couple of months ago he took a turn for the worse and then six weeks ago his lady love, who lived across the hall from him, died suddenly. This Saturday it was time for him to go. RIP Pops.

Thanks and my sympathy. I had second thoughts about putting the link about my dad up on your post, since I didn't want to deflect from your tribute. But I'm glad you saw it as a connection, which is how I meant it. We were so lucky to have great dads in our lives, and for so long. And they were lucky to have loving children to be with them in their transition out of this world.

(by the way, I loved your yellow canoe painting)

Since my own dad died a year-and-a-half ago, I've learned that girls never really lose their fathers.
